Notice of Data Incident

Members Trust Company (“MTC”) respects individuals’ privacy and takes keeping information confidential seriously.  After becoming aware of suspicious activity involving email accounts belonging to certain Members Trust employees on October 16, 2023, Members Trust began an internal investigation and promptly secured the email accounts from further unauthorized access. Members Trust also engaged a forensic security firm to investigate and confirm the security of its email and computer systems. The forensic investigation determined that certain emails and attachments within the accounts were potentially accessed between September 1, 2023, and October 17, 2023.

Based on the findings of the investigation, we conducted a review of the emails and attachments potentially accessed by the unauthorized party to determine if they contained any personal information. The initial review was completed on January 30, 2024, and determined that the emails and attachments contained some personal information.  The information varies across individuals, but may include individuals’ names, dates of birth, driver’s license or state identification numbers, financial account numbers, including routing numbers, Social Security numbers, credit or debit card numbers, including expiration dates and CVVs, international tax IDs, passport numbers, usernames or email addresses and passwords, and limited medical information.

MTC is sending letters to all involved individuals for whom it has a valid mailing address and has arranged for complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services for those individuals whose Social Security numbers or driver’s license numbers were potentially involved. To date, MTC has no evidence that any personal information has been misused for the purpose of committing fraud or identity theft.  As a precautionary measure, individuals should remain vigilant to protect against potential fraud and/or identity theft by, among other things, reviewing their account statements and monitoring credit reports closely. If individuals detect any suspicious activity, they should notify the entity with which the account is maintained, and promptly report any fraudulent activity to proper law enforcement authorities, including the police and their state attorney general. Additional information regarding identity protection can be obtained at www.ftc.gov/idtheft or by calling the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-ID-THEFT (1-877-438-4338).  Individuals may also contact the FTC at: Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580.
